Month of Migas | 1 to 29 February | Council of Mora
February is “Migas Month” in Mora.
There are eleven restaurants participating in the 7th edition of the Month of Migas in the Municipality of Mora throughout the month of February.
The Mês das Migas (Migas Month) is a gastronomic event that is organized annually by the Municipality of Mora in collaboration with the local restaurants.
What is Migas?
Migas (English: ‘Bread Crumbs’) or Migas de Pastor (“in shepherd’s style”) is a Spanish and Portuguese traditional farmer’s or shepherd’s dish in which old white bread is used. It is served as a side dish or as a main course in its own right.
For this purpose, the bread is broken into small pieces and mixed with a strong meat stock, garlic and possibly other spices such as paprika, so that a crumbly mass is formed. This is then fried in a pan with more or less oil, stirring constantly and “chopping” the mass with a wooden spoon, until the mass is browned. In Spanish supermarkets, migas are also offered with pieces of ham or chorizo as a ready meal
