Montado do Freixo do Meio

Co-organization: Cooperativa Integral Minga Montemor, Montado do Freixo do Meio e Reflorestar Portugal

Do we want to learn how to work better together? Making better decisions as a collective? How do we give a better structure to an organization using efficiency, transparency and
equivalence as a starting point? This course aims to facilitate and share techniques in these areas.
In this introductory course, John Buck presents his latest book titled BOSSA Nova where he combines new methods with traditional sociocracy: Beyond Budgeting, Open Space, Sociocracy
and Agile.

\ IMPLEMENTATION SUPPORT: There will be customized implementation support by appointment with John Buck and the facilitators team. We have the 8, 9, 10 e 11 of December available for visits/consults to projects. We still have 6 slots of 3/4 hours in these 4 days. 3 mornings and 3 afternoons. Ideally at Montado do Freixo do Meio or at Montemo-o-Novo area. The price for this consulting is to be determined in an individual basis.

Introducing sociocracy, its facilitation, implementation and organizing follow-on after this course.
Topics covered include efficiency, improving communications, accountability with high morale, how to align ideals on a project, sustainable financial practices that lead rather than restrain
innovation, environmental innovation, action learning.
Explain 4 principles of Sociocracy: 1)consent 2)circle 3)double-linking 4)election.
Talk about conflicts, ego clashes, emotional hurt, that is a part of the process when we try to work together. Sociocracy helps get results despite those problems, and thus help us grow out of those
limited ways.
There will be time to talk about possible ways of implementing these concepts on the participant organizations.

John Buck, is an experienced trainer who has been sharing this governance methodology across the world for dozens of years. He then completed a master’s degree in Quantitative Sociology at George Washington University.
By using quantitative analysis to measure the effects of sociocracy on Dutch workers, he confirmed its effectiveness in increasing worker commitment and organizational productivity.
John Buck has extensive experience in managing hundreds of workers in both government and corporate sectors in computer systems installation and management. He is an expert in

Freixo do Meio is an Alentejo farm where a new generation has taken up the challenge of managing it as a Common Good. It has chosen Agroecology as a management ethic by returning to
the medieval Montado Agroecosystem as a way to approach the present and build the future.
This model of agroforestry is today enriched by the visions of Science, Permaculture, and Food
Sovereignty. Since then, its mission has been based on demand, transparency, democratic participation, knowledge and innovation.
It seeks, through its User Cooperative, to be a space for cooperation, inclusion, personal development, work and community building. It tries to improve its relationship with resources:
water, soil, biodiversity, energy, science and culture.

Montado do Freixo do Meio is located next to the village of Foros de Vale de Figueira, on the border between the Alto Alentejo and Ribatejo, near Montemor-o-Novo.
If you are coming by bus, you should head towards Montemor-o-Novo and warn us in advance so we can pick you at the bus station.
