The verb “to contemplate” (lat. contemplāri) refers, among other meanings, to attentive observation and deep reflection. To contemplate is to open oneself to what is real, to discover the novelty of the ordinary, to see the beauty of everyday life and thus to occupy a unique place in the world. When contemplating something, someone or himself, the individual has the opportunity to (re)build the reality around him. The subject who contemplates converges his gaze in the present, trying to capture the instant and its infinite possibilities. In this perspective, to contemplate is to break with the instantaneous. Contemplation with curiosity and enchantment, free from (pre)assumptions, thus leads to lived perception.

The present exhibition wants to contemplate the University of Évora and the city that gives it its name , with simple details. The photographs seek to record the routine of the Academy and the daily life of the students and their traditions. Not indifferent to the urban environment, the images also portray the daily life of the residents of the historic city of Évora, and the details that make up its beautiful architecture.

Thus, we try to translate, with poetry, the author’s foreign look, of Brazilian nationality, on the customs of one of the oldest teaching academies in Portugal, as well as the narratives that permeate his bucolic city of Alentejo.
