The beach, deserted, is very long, with a very clear and fine sand. It is interrupted by rocks on which the ruins of the fortified citadel that the Mayans once built stand. The atmosphere is warm, the sea water is warm. A cool breeze blows and I hear only the sound of the sea and the birds.
I am in Mexico, on the Yocatan peninsula, more precisely in Tulum. Although four months have passed since I left Lisbon, my feeling is that I left Portugal a multitude of years ago, almost as if I had left in a century ago. Each month is another stage of the route that has been outlined for a long time, which has taken me from one land to another, from city to city, from country to country.
Time goes by very quickly, always filled with an endless succession of events. Each day, even filled with problems or setbacks, is a memory that I can never forget. Every day is another day in the land of Never! I live each day as if the past did not exist and the future was an illusion.
The reality that I feel is only this moment in which I write on this beach where I am. The whole vastness of the universe extends only to the limit of my vision; the horizon, the sky, the beach. Everything that existed or will exist is just fiction. Time and space no longer have well-defined contours, referenced not by temporal or metric units, but by the abstract dimensions of perception. To travel in the land of never is to discover that inner territory where the harmony between ourselves and the universe is established.
