Exhibition by Rob Monaghan with Phyllis Akinyi (video performance) and Miguel Noya (sound landscape)
From 6 June to 12 August 2019
Inauguration: June 6th at 18h
6.30 p.m.: Nyar Kakan’s flamenco dance performance with Stefan Jarl

Rob Monaghan (Ireland) came to Portugal to study the environmental impact on the landscape by the marble quarrying industries in the Estremoz region, but was immediately seduced by the abandoned sites and the slow recovery of nature there. Helping Rob Monaghan create his narrative in the quarries was the video, photography and recovery of the objects found.
A highlight of this exhibition is the video of dancer Phyllis Akinyi (Denmark) dancing in a quarry lake. Miguel Noya (Venezuela) composed the sound landscape for this video and sets a sensory tone for the exhibition.

As part of the opening of this exhibition there will be a flamenco dance performance (June 6 – 6:30pm) by Nyar Kakan with Stefan Jarl.
I CONTAIN MULTITUDES is a show in which flamenco is combined with Eastern African mysteries, ancient rituals and Scandinavian electronic soundscapes. It is a tribute to multicultural identities. It is choreographed by Phyllis Akinyi and performed by Akinyi alongside percussionist Stephan Jarl. With Kenyan and Danish roots, Akinyi investigates his own life, and seeks an autonomous expression in which tradition meets the contemporary.
