Six photographers from Sines are part of the City Day exhibition at the Sines Arts Centre. Under the generic title of “Mundividências”, we launched the challenge for each one to design a coherent project that would reflect a moment of their work, or a concept that would condense the scope of their work.
| JORGE CUSTÓDIO” :: “REFLECTIONS OF THE SELF” |“REFLEXOS DO EU” JORGE CUSTÓDIO
To photograph the I is to photograph the Other. In his wanderings in search of the moments to eternalize, sometimes, the photographer is captured by his own lens. This set of photographs is an example of that, and contributes to the memory of the Self which is at the same time the memory of the Other.
THE WORLD IN BLACK AND WHITE IS NOT GREY” |“O MUNDO A PRETO E BRANCO NÃO É CINZENTO” LUÍS MAGALHÃES
Ten countries. Ten monochrome prints. The colors of their worlds and their people. The look, the soul and the lens of Luís Magalhães.
THE COLOURS OF LUÍS MAGALHÃES’ EYES, SOUL AND LENS: “ON THIS DAY OF SEA AND FOG” AND “FROM GAGARIN’S POINT OF VIEW” |“NESTE DIA DE MAR E NEVOEIRO” E “FROM GAGARIN’S POINT OF VIEW” RUI PEAREIRA
Two photo series. In the first, the artist explores his relationship with the place, with the sea and memory. In the second, starting from the title of a song by the jazz trio E.S.T., he takes the photographer to a reflection by existence, by genesis, by ‘the whole’, by the universe, by the cosmos.
IN LUMINE” | “IN LUMINE” SOFIA COSTA
IN LUMINE” (in light) is a project that seeks to capture images in the absence of light, showing shapes, silhouettes… It is the capture of light in the darkness of the moment.
“MARESIAS” TIAGO CANHOTO
“Leaving work, with high levels of stress, taking the machine and tripod and heading for the beaches of our Alentejo coast is therapeutic. Alone, feeling the salty breeze, the sound of the sea, the sand sticking to my feet, and being able to contemplate one of nature’s greatest spectacles, the sunset. I, in my own way, only register it.”
“SUN AND SALT FACES” | “ROSTOS DE SOL E SAL” VÍTOR SEROMENHO
The marks of hard work, performed by men of flesh and blood, but with an iron will…
