About NOVES FORA NADA by Samuel Uria:
“I’m looking for a word in my 20’s. A word between the enthusiastic interjection and the surrendered adjective. It was the word that would have come out there in 1993 if I had listened to the songs of the Nines Outside Nothing. Maybe an “awesome!” (but it doesn’t fit, because the “highly” has aged badly). Perhaps an old gesture: a clench of fists, while the euphoric melancholy entered the ears and went straight to the feet – it became the will to run and kick everything in this life.
Calm down, that the Nines Out does not sound old, does not sound dated. On the contrary. They sound like justice and ransom. They are the great band for the 90s of the 20th century that Portugal did not have, and the band for the 20s of the 21st century that Portugal does not yet deserve. A clench of fists, a clench of teeth, mature adolescence, the will to run after the time we have left and kick the time we have left.
What is this thing that makes me return to more energetic days, but with songs for the future? What are these knits that renew me? I’ll clench my fists, clench my teeth, clench the pipes of my enthusiastic interjections.
Oh, man! Headbangin’ is everything again, Nines Out Nothing.”
