Kings Day in Évora is Singing the Windows

The Day of Kings is approaching and, in Évora, it is synonymous with singing the Janeiras through its neighborhoods and historic center. The traditional songs and music of the block will echo through the voices of the choirs and instrumental groups of the municipality in the streets, wide and squares of the city World Heritage Site from 6 pm, culminating in performances in Praça do Sertório at 8 pm.

This year the initiative is led by 17 choral, polyphonic, instrumental groups and the Philharmonic Band “Liberalitas Julia”, in an organization of the Municipality of Évora and the Unions of the Parishes of Évora (Historic Centre), Bacelo and Senhora da Saúde, Malagueira and Horta das Figueiras and the Parish Council of Canaviais.

At 8 pm all the groups involved converge to the Sertório Square, after acting in the neighborhoods, where the final conviviality will take place, which, as tradition dictates, is assured in a warm environment, where the characteristic ground fire will not be missing.

The following groups will participate in the Cantos de Janeiras:
ARPIFSS’s Singers, Évora’s Singing Group, Évora’s Choral, Eborae Mvsica’s Polyphonic Choir, CORUÉ – Évora’s University Choir, Alentejo’s Singing Group of the Casa do Povo de Nossa Senhora de Machede, Alentejo’s Voices Regional Singing Group, AHRIE’s Choral Group, Choral and Instrumental Voices of the Sugar Cane, Choral Group of São Brás do Regedouro, CME’s Choral Group, ARPIC’s Instrumental Accordion Group, TAFUÉ – Tuna Académica Feminina da Universidade de Évora, TAUÉ – Tuna Académica da Universidade de Évora, Tertúlia do Cante Alentejano em Évora, Vozes do Imaginário and Banda Filarmónica Liberalitas Julia.
