The PEACE was written by Aristophanes and presented in the Great Dionysias in 421 B.C. This ancient comedy severely criticizes and satirizes the war in the Peloponnese that brought Athenians against Spartans.
The work tells the story of Trigeu de Atmónia, a Greek farmer who had enough of the war decides to fly to Olympus, mounted on a giant beetle, to take satisfaction from Zeus. But the gods, who are also tired of the war between men, flee to a remote place in space. When he arrives at Olympus, Trigeu learns of the departure of the gods and that the goddess Peace has been imprisoned in a cave by the personification of War and Disorder…
Any resemblance to the present is pure coincidence.
